I recently came across an article on ClickZ, that caught my attention. The article explained how mobile searches were being made more and more, and not just only on the go. To sum it up, the article mentioned a study by Yahoo, that shows mobile searches are occurring more and more at home. The study analyzed roughly 6400 searches, and discovered that about 75% of mobile searches occur in settings where a PC or laptop is available, such as in the house or office. Besides this major finding, the study also found out that “half of mobile shopping-related queries led to a purchase, with 69% of those purchases happening within five hours of search and 76 occurring in person at a store.” Furthermore, the study found that half of mobile searchers agree that sponsored listings in their searches could persuade them to consider an other brands during shopping. These findings pinpoint mobile’s role in the shopping decision, and can help marketers and brands alike on how to influence mobile users.
Whenever my laptop and my mobile device are in sight, I usually opt to use my laptop to conduct my searches, so it was surprising for me to discover that mobile was being used in such settings. Mobile is becoming more and more prevalent in people’s lives, and it should be noted that the way we target customers should be aimed in a more mobile approach, with links and ads fitted to mobile devices.
